I know, it's REALLY early for this, but believe it or not, I've already had questions about 2012 dorm rooms! Due to the fact that I have a baby due in May & we are moving in April (or sooner), I'm going to offer 10% off all dorm room orders placed before May 1!!

Here's how it works.....

Email me (tootledoodesigns@gmail.com), and we will pick a week in June or July that I will complete your order. You don't have to have anything picked out for sure right now, just an idea of what you want! This way, I know early on what to expect this summer (since it will be a little chaotic with 3 boys in a new house), and you know exactly when your order will be ready AND you get 10% off! Great, right?

I LOVE getting pics of my pillows & such once they make it to their homes!! I got this one the other day from and Etsy customer, and I love the way it looks on their bed!

It is this pillow here, and it's one of my favorites...the pillow pictured is in our den. It's been one of my most popular these days! I think it's floating around on Pinterest, but I can't seem to find it--it's impossible to find specific things on there!!

If anybody else has pictures they would like to send me, I would love it!!

I'm wanting to do some new style monogram pillows, so I may do some sample sales of new styles on Facebook soon-be looking out for it. I'll post a swatch of the fabric, and you can purchase it for 1/2 price (or more) and pick your color & monogram style. I'll then use pictures of the finished products to sell on Etsy. Here's a few I picked up today..let me know what you think!

Ahh, I finally feel like things are organized now! There is a huge bed sort of in the middle of my space that the owner owns, & if they can find the slats for it I plan on decking it out as well!

Moving on, we just had out pictures made by Jessica Rowell, who one of my friends recommended. She did such a good job, especially considering we were all getting over the stomach bug and no one was cooperating! I highly recommend her if you live in the Memphis area!

Etsy Front Page!

I know that not many of you are Etsy sellers, but is a BIG deal to get on the front page! Someone in Etsy-world picks treasuries they think are good enough, and you get front page exposure! Unfortunately, they don't let you know...wish I could have seen it live. However, I got on to print some orders off and noticed I had a crazy amount of "hearts" for the chevron letter & shop favorites, so I investigated...front page starting at 11am CST this morning (Sunday)-so exciting!!

I joined the Pinterest world a while back--seemed like such a great way to save pictures you find instead of saving them on your computer (and never seeing them again) or tearing them out of magazines (and leaving them laying around causing your husband to yell at you). Well, it's turned into quite a deal these days, and though I'm not a manic pinner, I do pin fabrics I like, projects I'm working on, & ideas for my house to build (which is probably 5 years out, but it takes me a while to settle on things-ha!). I added a "follow me on Pinterest" button on the sidebar--the big red button that doesn't match my blog :( I'm working on CarolynV to make me a pretty one!

Dorm Room Wrap Up-2011

Well, I'm a little behind on posting the final dorm room pictures from this year. Things have been a little wild, including finding out we were having baby #3 (!) right in the middle of finishing these up and getting ready for Germantown Festival--needless to say, I took a little time off to get over my tiredness/nauseousness. Hopefully I'm coming out of it and can get back to normal!!

This dorm room I don't think I've posted any pictures of yet. I think it's my favorite, but maybe because they pretty much let me pick out everything and do what I thought--I love doing those! I think they just found me on the internet, they are from Jacksonville, FL, and are very trusting--they never really saw anything until I showed up with it on move in day!! These girls are in Crosby at Ole Miss.

I did the skirt, red striped pillow, navy pillow, & monogrammed pillow. The headboard is from Premier Fabrics in Germantown, TN, and the quilt is from Anthropologie (I don't think the navy is available anymore).

The bulletin board turned out so good, there are some close ups of it below

Since she's using her refrigerator for the side table, they asked for a runner for it to spice it up a little--it turned out so cute!

They just did solid white curtains since there were so many bright colors in the bedding, but I didn't get a good picture of them up

A Chipper Little Nursery!

I was so excited when Ashley called me to do some stuff for a nursery for sweet little Louisa! I love doing nurseries, so fun!

The green fabric that is mostly used here is "Chipper" from Premier Fabrics--it looked so good with the other things Ashley picked out, I wish I had taken pictures when I went over there--Ashley if you're reading this, send us pictures so we can see how cute the room is! For now, we'll have to settle for the pictures I set up in Hogan's room-not as cute, but you get the idea!

The whole ensemble--wish I would have moved that fan, I didn't even notice it!

The top of the diaper stacker, but we ended up hanging it a little different because the end of her bed didn't have slats. We put a baby hanger on the top then tied bows with the ties--I really should go take some more pictures!

Monogrammed pillow in the "Harrington" font, a new one I've added!

The dust ruffle--this is just one of the side panels. They tie to the springs up under the mattress so you can adjust it when you move the mattress.

Ashley bought some bumper pads from Babies-R-Us, and we just spruced up the ties-I love this idea! So much easier and cheaper :)

The Chipper Chickie & New Paintings

I wish I could say I've been super busy and have lots of new stuff, but I have taken a little time off and hopefully I can get back in the swing of things now!!

I know most college's have already done rush this year, but Ole Miss's started today, and that's my main market--you can order them whenever though!

Here is a sampling of sorority pillows--the pictures are kind of bad, hopefully I'll get some new ones up on Facebook in a few days, and I may change the fabrics on a few of them, but you get the general idea.

They can also be ordered to match the girls' rooms, like these...

Any orders placed by Monday October 3rd at noon can be wrapped and delivered to the sorority houses next week for an additional charge of $5--easy! The pillows are $35, and $45 for the ruffled ones. Custom ones may carry an extra charge depending on size and fabric choice. Email me to order one!

Don't forget The Chipper Chickie also has her burlap door hangers-so cute for the dorm or apartments! These can also be ordered and delivered..

Apartment Therapy--Ole Miss

In August, my sister (who's dorm room is here) moved in with some of her sorority sisters into a sad little apartment-I wish I could find the "before" picture they sent me when they got there, but no one can find it. Trust me, it was pitiful.

One of her roommates had bought a rug, so using that for the inspiration, we got this...

Dorm Room #2--Alabama Girls

The next dorm room for 2011 is for two cute girls from Memphis going to Alabama--they are staying in Tutweiler (I think...not up on my Bama information!) I think it's so cute and different--I just love it! I can't wait to see pictures of it all put together! I'm pretty sure they are using white quilts on each bed, so you'll have to put it all together in your head since the pics are at my house :)

All the pillows for the each bed together--the pillow in the middle is the "Cooled Ikat Pillow" Anthropologie, and there is one for each bed.

One of the dust ruffle panels for the beds--each girl has three panels-one for the foot of the bed and two for the side (the other side will be against the wall)

The velcro that attaches it to the bed seems to always confuse people, so here's a picture. Just remove the sticky back and attach to the bed frame, and viola!-removable skirt to get to all your junk under the bed!

Curtains--trimmed on the inside of each with the coordinating purple fabric.

Again, these are hanging on my den window, and obviously doesn't fit! Their window is short, so should look great there!

I do have quite a few letters left (especially W), so let me know if you want one ASAP because once they are gone, that's it! Well, I haven't done a good job of keeping up with Tootledoo Tuesdays, so I'm just gonna talk about shops I love as I find them! Much easier to keep up with at my crazy house...

I'm really not sure how I stumbled on the Gus & Lula blog, but I did in the middle of their adoption. They adopted the CUTEST little boy and girl from Ethiopia just a few months ago, and I've had so much fun following her blog and watching them grow! Those 2 seem to be one my kids energy levels, so it makes me feel like it's not just my kids who are a little crazy :) Britt also posts great design ideas & her DIY projects--I've gotten many ideas from her!

I absolutely LOVE her Etsy shop...this one is one of my favorites, as well as this one..

I have a few places in mind for each of them in my house once the remodel kicks into high gear in a few months.

This new one seems to be pretty fitting for our house these days-maybe if I hang it in our house our boys will somehow learn to read it-ha!

How Do I Look?

I am SO excited about my new blog design! It was a much needed makeover, and I couldn't be happier! If any of you ever need a custom remodel for your blog, you must talk to Carolyn V.--she's the best. I'll let her explain what she does in her own words...

I work hard to make each blog design fit and accurately represent the blog and blogger. This is not a "slap on a sweet font in a standard frame'' kind of operation. With a knack for clean and up-to-date designs, I keep in mind basic design principles to improve the readability and functionality, as well as the aesthetics, of your blog.

I truly enjoy doing this. What started out as a hobby in my unemployed, German learning, Schnitzel-eating early Austrian days has turned into a small, but sweet little venture

She was so fun to work with, and did exactly what I was wanting--something, clean, simple, easy to navigate, and represented what I do. Thanks so much Carolyn!!

My other blog design was a stock template from Simply Yours Designs, who I also love, but the standard blogger template just don't make it easy to have a blog that's also a business. She did make my logo for me, and she designed my Etsy banner & blog button. If you are looking for a simple blog makeover, she has some great templates!

Dorm Room #1 for 2011--Ole Miss

Hello all! I've got quite a few dorm rooms this year, so I'm gonna blog about them as I go instead of one big jumbled post at the end :)

I came in at the end of these girls' room, after they had already found most of their stuff. They actually got my card at the fabric store because they told them I made bulletin boards, but I ended up making several different things (but no bulletin boards-ha! they are still trying decide about wall decor!)

WARNING--disregard the creepy man (my husband) holding up the dust ruffle panel--I don't have a bed tall enough to pin them to so that you can see them good! I'm working on a solution for that for the future...

This is a three girl room in Martin (which I can't imagine--they were 2 girl "luxury suites" when I was there!) One for each bed--so cute!

Here is one of the dust ruffle panels (and the creepy man)--each bed has three panels (assuming that the head of the bed and one of the long sides is against the wall)-one panel for the foot, and two panels for the long side--open in middle to access your stuff! They attach to the bed with industrial strength velcro--pretty sure I would stick to the bed if I attached it to myself! The skirts really do stay up all year despite opening them a million times a day! So much easier than an extension rod...

These were a gift for someone--at first I thought they were for the girls and I was worried (never want to tell everyone what you want/think you're gonna get :), but I was reassured they were gifts! I love the owl fabric on the ruffle--perfect for Chi O!

This has nothing to do with the dorm room, but they ordered it for a baby shower gift and I thought it was so cute!! I LOVE the baby blue houndstooth on the back. The little boy's room is khaki and baby blue, so it should match perfect! (If the Owen's momma is reading this, I'd love to see a pic of it in the room!)

Dorm Room Ideas

Since this is the last week to get 20% off all dorm room orders, I thought I'd make a little list of what I think are the top 7 best tips for decorating a dorm room. (why 7-that's when Hogan woke up-ha!)

Since your dorm room is probably your first place away from home, you definitely want it to be fun and to reflect your own personal style...which leads me to...

1. Let the girls, not the mom, pick the style of the room!

Too many times, the mom tries to pick what she wants for the room, only to have the girl not like it once she moves in. Moms may go in there 10 times all year, so let the girls have fun and pick everything out! Moms, if it's ugly, you don't have to live with it!

2. Pick out a solid colored comforter.

The best way to start is to get a solid comforter that you can work around with fun, printed curtains, pillows, and bedskirts! It really helps to anchor the whole room, and you can usually get a pretty good deal! Good places to look are The Company Store, Target, Bed, Bath, and Beyond, & Linen Source. Save on the comforter so you can splurge on all of the fun stuff! I love these how these simple white coverlets let all the colors and fabrics stand out!

3. Have at least one thing with your name on it.

Whether it's a painting or a monogrammed pillow, you gotta have something personalized in your room! (maybe it's just a southern thing, but I love it!) I have done a coordinating monogrammed throw for every dorm room I've done, and they really just make the room! Fabric letters are also a fun way to personalize your room--you can get just one for your first name, or a set of 3 for your whole monogram!

4. Get a big bulletin board that coordinates with your room.

You gotta have somewhere to put all of your pics of you family and high school friends you left behind--within weeks you'll be switching out the pics for ones with all your new friends! I love to cover the corkboard in fabric with a solid frame, or leave the cork exposed and paint the frame to match your room! I have several that I'm working on that I can't wait to share pictures of! I love the way this one turned out...

5. Under the bed storage--your new best friend

It's amazing how much stuff you will take to college, and even more so how much you will accumulate over your 9-month stay there! Plastic shelving and drawers like these fit perfectly under the bed, and help contains things that won't fit in your closet. Hide all of the mess with the dorm bedskirts-at 35" long, they go from the boxsprings to the floor, and easily attach with velcro so you can easily open and close them to access everything underneath! Love them!

6. Your other new best friend...a clip on fan

I don't think I would have made it in college without my clip on fan--maybe it's just me, but in those hot, stuffy dorm rooms, there's nothing better than that oscillating breeze!

7. A Rug Pulls the Whole Room Together

Again, here, I like a solid. You can buy those pieces of carpet, but I like a coordinating solid rug to throw down in between the beds. Nothing expensive though, it's will be mutilated by the end of the year! Pottery Barn Kids & Teen is a great place to look for cheap, solid rugs, as well as Target.

Well, I've been a little behind in the blogging department--it's been a busy month I guess, but I'm rebounding! Tootledoo Tuesdays will be back, and I'll update more than once a week :)

One thing I've been doing a lot of lately is the Set of 3 Fabric Letters--here are a few of them...

Both of these sets are for weddings--such a fun idea! I think the top set is going to hang on their chairs at the reception--I'm hoping for some pics!

For any of y'all reading who are in Jonesboro, AR (my hometown), I am going to be doing "Art Culture" for a friends new yogurt store, Local Culture!

He has a fun week planned, including Art Culture on Tuesday June 7, Youth Culture on Wednesday, Pop Culture on Thursday, and Family Culture on Friday and Saturday--we'll be out front from 1-8pm on Tuesday the 7th--come by and check out all the great vendors and get some yogurt! A big THANKS to everyone who made a purchase from May 5-May 20 on the Etsy shop to help the Tuscaloosa schools! We raised $60, and that was just from all other Etsy orders, not Alabama/Auburn stuff--I was excited! I am going to extend the fundraising for the Alabama/Auburn pillows & black houndstooth letters through the end of the month, so help me spread the word to those fans--thanks again!!

Also, keep those in Joplin, MO in your prayers since they were struck so bad by another tornado--the scary part about that one is that they issued the warning from the radar alone-not an actual sighting. Those of us who live in the South and hear the tornado sirens go off all the time tend to not take those warnings as seriously, or at least our house doesn't. Hopefully it was a wake-up call to all of us with that bad habit!

Tootledoo Tuesdays--Fairs & Floods!

I have several things to tend to today--stay with me even if I ramble!

First, we had Fair on the Square in Collierville, TN this weekend, and it was so fun (despite the surprise rain shower Saturday morning & blazing temps Sunday)! I have never been before, but every one said it was down a lot (vendors & customers) compared to past years, which made me feel like we did really good! Here's a peak at the setup----

See those paintings? That was my Friday night, last minute "I'm tired of sewing but want to make something else" project. I thought they turned out cute-and I sold the owl! Made me feel like a real artist :)

Yesterday, we decided to venture downtown to see all of the flooding and let John Wilson see the Peabody ducks. I've never been to this duck march, and I've lived ether in or within 1 hour of Memphis my whole life Who knew it would be so packed on a random Monday afternoon! We went to the rooftop to let JW see them up close

So, I just saw where 3 Tuscaloosa elementary schools were COMPLETELY destroyed in the tornadoes, and I knew that I wanted to do something to help. I just can't imagine John Wilson's school being destroyed like that--he loves going so much, and he has grown and learned more than I ever thought he would over this year. I wanted to do something to help with putting these schools back together for their students, who have been through so much with the storms and need to be able to return to their schools in the fall and be with all of their friends!

I've been making college pillows lately (which I'll post them in a few days), and I thought some Alabama and Auburn ones would be perfect to use as a fundraiser!! I think they turned out so good!!!

I also added a limited time black and white houndstooth fabric covered letter--

All profits from from these Alabama & Auburn items & 30% of ALL profits in the Etsy store will go to "Help Tuscaloosa Schools" for the next 2 weeks (ending May 20), and you can keep up with how much money we've have raised on the sidebar of the blog.

New Stuff!

Sorry for the lack of posts again this week--we have had a house full of sicklies! I have a few new things that I cranked out during all of the sickness..I think they turned out pretty cute!

First, I had a custom pillow request on Etsy to match some bedding--I love it so much I decided to list it in my shop!

I love doing custom items, they are so much fun! I always get such good ideas for new stuff! I have some new letter styles that I will try to post tomorrow that came from custom orders.

I also made a few shams...I have so much fabric I want to use for shams, but I just haven't quite had the time! Hopefully once things settle down a little next month I can do those. Here are a couple...

I am going to list these in the Etsy shop in 14" and 18", but if you need another size just let me know. I think these are so fun!

I have two of these, but I won't be listing them in the shop. I have them at the booth in Oxford, and I can't find anymore of this fabric--I got it in a remnant stack a few years ago. If you are interested in it though, let me know and I can go swipe it from there if it's still available!

So, I went to Oxford, MS to make my new booth at Sugar Magnolia "pretty" today, and I think it turned pretty cute...let me know what y'all think!!

Even better, I've already sold some stuff-YAY!

I've got to add some stuff to it--more shams, sorority pillows, and ready-made dorm stuff, but it's come a long way since last time. I'm pretty sure I have the smallest booth there (6 ft x 6 ft triangle), but it's perfect for starting out. If any of y'all are in the Oxford area, stop by and see it-they have so many great booths, and Oxford Kids Company has moved into the upstairs loft! We are in the back left corner!

Happy Spring everybody! Our house is SO thrilled that the trees are starting to bloom and the grass is starting to turn green--we are pretty much outside ALL day long lately!

On a completely other note, my day job is probably one of the most interesting around. I think I deal with the biggest idiots in the world--something about people and their medicine makes them act crazy! This little video is HILARIOUS (although y'all probably won't think so!)--just a glimpse into what we have to deal with on a daily basis! The sad thing is...this video is not exaggerating! Listen closely for the "Escalade" part...I think it's my fav-ha!
